Five support zones

The shape

Five zones, one piece.

Most pillows are one flat block that asks your neck to adapt to it. This one is moulded into five areas, each doing a different job depending on how you lie down.

The Hvila Contour with its five zones marked: head cradle, neck support, cervical arch, shoulder relief and arm rests.

Measurements are nominal and taken from the moulded foam core. Memory foam is a soft material — expect small variations between units.

Side by side

A flat pillow, and this one.

The difference is not the material. Both are foam. The difference is that one of them has a shape.

  • ·Shoulder sits under the same thickness as your head

Hvila Contour

  • Two working heights — 11 cm and 9 cm
  • Raised arch shaped to fill the gap at your neck
  • Cut-out along the bottom edge for your shoulder
  • Lowered wings for the arm you tuck underneath
Questions

Answered plainly.

It has two heights in the same piece, 11 cm and 9 cm, so turning it over changes the profile. Try both and see which suits how you sleep. Most people settle on one within the first week.

Probably, yes. A contoured pillow holds your head in a fixed position, and if you have spent years on a flat one it takes a few nights to stop noticing. Give it a week before you decide.

Unzip the cover and machine wash it. Do not wash the foam core — memory foam holds water and will not dry properly. Wipe it with a damp cloth and mild soap if needed, and let it air dry completely before use.

Memory foam holds more heat than down or feather. The cover is a breathable knit, which helps, but if you sleep very hot this is worth knowing before you buy rather than after.

Memory foam softens over time. Expect two to three years of proper support with normal use, and replace it when it stops springing back.

63 × 40 cm, with the profile stepping between 11 cm and 9 cm. It fits a standard pillowcase loosely, but the included cover is cut to the contour.

Then lie down.

The gap is finally filled

I have a long neck and every flat pillow left a gap I could fit my hand into. The raised front edge actually fills it. Three weeks in and I have stopped waking up to readjust.

Two heights is the whole point

I sleep on my side most nights and on my back when my shoulder plays up. Being able to flip to the 9 cm edge instead of buying a second pillow is the thing I did not know I wanted.

Took a week, exactly as they said

The first three nights were odd — it holds your head still and you notice. By night six I had stopped thinking about it. They warn you about this before you buy, which is why I stuck with it.

The shoulder cut-out is not a gimmick

Side sleeper with a bad shoulder. The notch along the front edge means my arm goes under the pillow instead of being squashed by it. First pillow that has accounted for that.

Holds its shape all night

The 60D foam does what they claim. It gives under my head and it is back to shape by the time I have made the bed. My last memory foam pillow stayed dented for an hour.

Warmer than feather, but they told me

It does hold more heat than the pillow it replaced. The page says so plainly, so I cannot really complain. The knit cover helps and I sleep with the window open anyway.

Washing the cover is genuinely easy

Unzips, goes in the machine, comes out fine. It is cut to the contour so it does not bunch up. Small thing, but it is why this one will last me longer than the last three.

The morning stiffness went

I am not going to claim it cured anything. I am saying I wake up without the tightness I had every morning for two years. That is enough for me.

Bought the second one a week later

Ordered one to test it. My partner kept stealing it, so now there are two. The lowered wings on the sides are the detail nobody else seems to bother with.

Firmer than I expected

Well made, and clearly designed rather than moulded at random. It is firmer than the pillow I came from — comfortable now, but I would call it supportive rather than soft.

Sensible size

63 by 40 does not swamp the bed. The contour cover that comes with it is far better than trying to force a standard case over the shape.

Honest page, honest product

I bought it partly because the website told me what it does not do. The pillow matches the description exactly, which is rarer than it should be.
